Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF)
Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a viral disease.
SYMPTOMS OF CHFF
1. Fever
2. Myalgia (muscle ache)
3. Dizziness
4. Neck pain and stiffness
5. backache
6. headache
7. sore eyes
8. photophobia (sensitivity to light)
There may be nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and sore throat early on, followed by sharp mood swings and confusion.
The virus can also spread between people via body fluids. Diagnosis is by detecting antibodies, the virus's RNA, or the virus itself. It is a type of viral hemorrhagic fever.
TREATMENT
General supportive care with treatment of symptoms is the main approach to managing CCHF in people.
The antiviral drug ribavirin has been used to treat CCHF infection with apparent benefit. Both oral and intravenous formulations seem to be effective.
