DOG
a domesticated carnivorous mammal that typically has a long snout, an acute sense of smell, non-retractile claws, and a barking, howling, or whining voice.
TYPES OF DOGS
1. TERRIERGROUP
Terriers were originally kept to hunt vermin, especially mice, rats, rabbits, otters, stoats and weasels. Some Terriers were designed to go down the holes of the European fox and other agricultural pest animals in order to chase them out for the hunter, and the name terrier is from the Latin terra, meaning earth, in reference to the dogs going underground.
2. TOY GROUP
Toy Group is the name of a breed group of the smallest kinds of dogs, used by kennel clubs to classify a defined collection of dog breeds. Toy Group does not necessarily refer to one particular type of dog.
3. WORKING GROUP
Working Group is the name of a breed group of dogs, used by kennel clubs to classify a defined collection of dog breeds. Working Group is not a term used by the international kennel club association, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, which more finely divides its breed groupings by dog type and breed history.
4. SPORTING GROUP
One of any of several breeds of usually large dogs especially suited by size and training for hunting by pointing, flushing, and retrieving game and including the pointers, setters, retrievers, and spaniels.
5. HOUND GROUP
Hounds can be contrasted with gundogs, which assist hunters by identifying the location of prey and/or recovering shot quarry. The hound breeds were the first hunting dogs. They have either a powerful sense of smell or great speed. These dogs have endurance but are not fast runners.
6. NON-SPORTING GROUP
One of any of several breeds of variously sized dogs that may have been developed to hunt or work but now are usually bred for show or as a pet, including the Bichon Frise, bulldog, dalmatian, chow chow, keeshond, and poodle.
7. HERDING GROUP
Herding dogs are often chosen as family pets. The collie breeds including the Bearded Collie and Border Collie are well known, as are the Welsh Corgis.
